1933 – 2025

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Ione, who finished her race with grace, faith, and unwavering strength. After a courageous battle with cancer, she entered the arms of Jesus, free from pain and suffering. For the past year and a half, cancer was a part of her story, but she never let it define her. Ione refused to let it determine her good or bad days, choosing instead to wake up each morning with gratitude, joy, and faith. No matter how she felt, she continued to love, to serve, and to trust in the goodness of God. Ione’s strength was not just in her fight but in the peace, she carried through it all.

Ione Martin was born in Beaumont, Texas, in 1933 to Theodore and Catherine Rush. As the eldest of three siblings, she embraced her role as a loving and devoted sister. In 1948, her passion for music led her to join the Melody Maids, a prestigious singing group that traveled the world, lifting the spirits of military personnel with their performances. That same year, fate stepped in when Ione met the love of her life, Thomas Quitman Martin Jr., at Texas A&M University. Their connection was instant, and in 1955, they began their lifelong journey together as husband and wife. In 1978, Tom and Ione planted their roots in Madisonville, Texas with their daughter Trisha, where they built a beautiful life filled with love, family, and cherished memories.

Above all, Meme cherished her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy and laughter. She was their biggest fan, always ready with a warm hug, words of wisdom, and unconditional love. Meme had a passion for adventure, whether it was traveling to new places, indulging in delicious food, or spending a day shopping. She never missed a baseball game, cheering on her favorite teams and, most of all, proudly watching her great-grandson play. Her love, laughter, and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Ione is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Trisha Stricker, and her husband, Sean; her grandchildren, Haley Wells and her husband, Kelly; Destiny Fitzgerald and her husband, Ryan; Bradley Linebaugh and his wife, Stacie; and Camryn Frederick and fiancé. She was a proud great-grandmother to Ty Quitman Wells, Nash Wells, Isabella Linebaugh, Elena Linebaugh, Maddie Linebaugh, Luke Fitzgerald, and Lynnleigh Fitzgerald.

She is also survived by her beloved sister, Mary Alice Weitzel, and her dearest friend, Shannon Frederick.

She is preceded in death by her Husband Thomas Quitman Martin Jr, Father Theodore Rush, Mother Catherine Rush, and Brother Theodore “Ted” Rush.

A big THANK YOU to some of the most amazing Doctors and Nurses who cared for her during the last year. Dr. Fleanor and Pam (PA) the amount of love you poured into my Meme every single day and every single visit, and every single chemo session is unmatchable. Home Health Nurses- Kim, Ana, Amanda. Hospice Nurse, Amber and Keisha. It was a journey, and we couldn’t have made it without any of you!

A celebration of her life will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Madisonville, where we will gather to honor her incredible spirit and the love she poured into the world.

Ione had a deep love for flowers, and we would be honored to fill the church with their beauty in her memory. In lieu of other gestures, the family kindly requests floral arrangements to celebrate her life and the joy she found in them.
