Lisa was born on May 17, 1968 in Madisonville to Donald Wayne Baker and Bettye Jo (Haston) Baker. She graduated from Madisonville High School in 1987 and most recently was employed by Durham Transportation.
Lisa’s life was marked by love and resilience.
Lisa loved her sons and was extremely proud of them. Being a mom, and later a grandmother, meant the world to her.
While married to John Carswell, she poured her heart into raising Colby and Coleton, all while helping John with bookkeeping for his business. When John passed, Lisa faced an unimaginable loss, yet she bravely moved forward, relocating with her two young boys to Madisonville. In the years that followed, her family continued to grow with the blessings of Cash, Caymen, and later Ike.
Her path took her to the Waco area for a time. She eventually returned to her hometown of Madisonville. There, the Lord surrounded her with many God-fearing friends who became a source of strength, comfort, and encouragement. She found her spiritual home at Midway Church of Christ, where she worshiped with a passionate heart and deep reverence for her Savior. Lisa’s faith deepened at this time.
Her pride soared when she became a bus driver for Durham Bus Services. After a year as a bus monitor—an achievement she held close to her heart, she became a bus driver. Her love for those children was boundless; she cherished each one, vowing to protect and nurture them as if they were her own. Her work was not just a job—it was a ministry, a calling to serve with compassion and dedication.
Lisa’s heart was pure gold—although she fought battles amongst her, it came to light that her love knew no bounds. She attended a women’s Bible study weekly, forming bonds with those who loved her and whom she loved in return. In her renewed faith, Lisa found direction and hope, transforming her life into a testimony of God’s grace.
Through countless storms and relentless hardships, she discovered her true purpose.
Nothing in this world mattered more to her than sharing the love of Jesus with others.
She focused on looking ahead and not behind her. Daily, she lifted her sons and grandchildren in prayer, praying for their salvation. Her life was a testament to a heart completely surrendered to the Lord— full of love, hope, and unwavering faith. Her greatest passion was sharing the love of Jesus, telling everyone she met about His amazing grace.
Lisa was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Victor Carswell; her siblings, Donald Craig Baker and Dennis Lane Fox; and her niece, Stacy Lynn Fox.
