Jon Lang Shannon, resident of Normangee, Texas, took his last breath on this earth and entered heaven on July, 8, 2021, at age 82. Jon was filled to the brim with grit and an unwavering faith in God and died living out 2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

Jon was born on August 21, 1938 in Madisonville, Texas and grew up on the family farm in Normangee, Texas. He graduated from Normangee High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from Sam Houston State University. He proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the Army’s 49th Armored Tank Division. His National Guard Unit was called into active duty during the Berlin Crisis. Jon began his career with TDC and was elevated to the rank of Assistant Warden. In 2003, he retired from Beckham and Jones in Huntsville and returned to Normangee, where he enjoyed ranching and his lifelong passion for all aspects of aviation.

Jon was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was known as a genuine, sincere, gentlemen of few words, the salt of the earth, and an honorable and well respected, hard working man.

Jon is preceded in death by his parents, John Heath and Pauline Shannon and his brother, Jack. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Shannon of fifty-five years; son, Rusty and his wife, Patti, and grandsons, Hunter, Tyler, and Chandler; son, Les Shannon and his wife Shanna, and their children Courtney and Connor and daughter, Sarah Garvey and her husband, Tom. Jon will be deeply missed by his brother, Jerry and wife, Donna; sister, Celia, and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends.

Services were held Saturday, July 10th, 2021 at Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas. A brief visitation took place from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. followed by the service at 2 p.m. A graveside service followed at Randolph Cemetery, Normangee, Texas.

Pallbearers: Clay Hightower, Justin Skains, Kevin Skains, Joe Skains, John Payne, Tom Garvey, John Hunter Shannon, Tyler Austin Shannon, Chandler Reid Shannon, James Connor Shannon, Colin Bowen, Heath Shannon.

Arrangements were under the direction of Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas.
