LaEvelyn Lorraine Staten-Brown was born on August 23, 1948 and went home to glory on August 6, 2021. She grew up going to Catholic schools throughout her young age and was a devoted Catholic all of her life. As an adult, she joined Sweet Zion Missionary Baptist along with her daughter due to her daughter being baptist, even though in her heart she always held her Catholic religion. Sometime during her teenage years her family moved to Bryan, Texas and she graduated from A.E. Kemp High, Class of 1966.

In Hearne, Texas, she met Jack Brown and after a lot of running he finally caught her, and on December 31, 1967, LaEvelyn Staten became Mrs. Jack Brown. To this union two children were born, Shewana Brown and Jack Brown II, whom everyone knew as “Lil Jack”.

She was smart and had many professions, including working at NASA at the tender age of 19, at Madisonville Nursing Home as a CNA, at Madisonville Junior High as a teacher, as an owner and operator of her own beauty and barber salon, and, finally, as a correctional officer at the Ferguson Unit for TDCJ-ID. But the one profession she loved most was being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Throughout the community she was fondly known simply as “Gran Gran”.

She had a heart of gold and loved helping and giving to her students and anyone who needed it. She has had a rewarding, fulfilled and adventurous life and she will be greatly missed.
