1940 – 2025

Betty Nosovitch passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025 at Wesley House Assisted Living in Gainesville, Texas while her daughter sat at her side holding her hand.

Betty was born December 24, 1940 in Portsmouth, Virginia to George C. and Elizabeth F. Ewart Patterson on their first wedding anniversar y.

Betty met the love of her life in the lobby of the telephone company where she worked after high school graduation.

John T. Nosovitch was a Nassau County New York Police Officer looking for a warm, dry place to take a break from his assigned beat who never imagined he had just met his soulmate.

They were married in Hagerstown, Maryland December 8, 1959 until death did they part when John left her on February 21, 2025.

Betty loved her family dearly and always insisted on hosting the whole clan for Christmas at her home in North Zulch.

She complained constantly about the noise and the chaos but always cried when everyone left. Since her adult daughter lived just a few hours away, Betty knew all of her daughter’s friends whom lovingly called her “Momma Nos”. At Wesley House, the young aides often gathered in her room to visit. Betty treated them like the granddaughter’s she never had.

Betty filled her early retirement years with many trips throughout the U.S. with John, and, when possible, her four grandsons. Most of these trips involved a zoo or two where Betty could see her beloved giraffes.

Over many decades, she amassed an impressive giraffe collection. Her apartment at assisted living was affectionately known as “Giraffic Park”.

Betty also dedicated years to the Republican Party as the Madison County Chairman.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, George and Elizabeth Patterson; devoted husband John T. Nosovitch, Sr.; and brother George Patterson.

She is survived by son, Dr. John T. Nosovitch, Jr. (Julia); daughter, Janice E. Nielsen (Jim); sister, Maureen Patterson; sister-in-law, Margaret Patterson; and sister-in-law, Olga (Scotty) Nosovitch. In addition, Betty leaves behind four grandsons; Spencer Nielsen (Kayla), John Nosovitch III, Sam Nosovitch (Hannah), and Ben Nosovitch as well as two great-granddaughters, one great-grandson, and numerous nieces, nephews, and loving friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held to honor Betty at the chapel in the Wesley House Assisted Living Center in Gainesville on Saturday, December 6, at 2 p.m.

A private interment is scheduled in the Central Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas in the spring where her ashes will be laid to rest with her husband.
