George Stanton Newton; 72 years, 4 months, 11 days; of Bedias, TX; passed away on Friday; January 29, 2021 in College Station, TX. The funeral services are scheduled for 11AM on Wednesday; February 3, 2021 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Bedias, TX with the burial to follow in Pankey Cemetery in Bedias, TX. The visitation is scheduled to begin at LOAM prior to the service. Jerry Cole, Jr. will officiate.

George was born on September 18, 1948 in Bedias, TX to Stanton Hairston and Mary Dell (Yeager) Newton. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in The United States Army from 1969 to 1975 and was honorably discharged with the rank Specialist 5 serving with The United States Fifth Army. During his service, George was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, The Vietnam Campaign Medal, and The Bronze Star Medal (which is awarded for heroic service in a combat zone). He worked for many years for The Texas Department of Criminal Justice and was retired as a transportation officer. George never met a stranger and was known throughout the “Pankey Community” as someone you could always count on for a helping hand.

George was preceded in death by his dad and his brother, Charlie Newton. He is survived by his mother; his wife, Bonnie (Persons) Newton; his children, Nikki McGill (Mike), George Newton, Jr. (Gail), Jason Newton (Joetta), John Newton (Rachel), Rhonda Levine (Stuart), and Chris Hanus; numerous grandchildren; and numerous other family members.

Serving as pallbearers are: Mike McGill, Kody McGill, Earl Wayne Herrin, Jay Newton, Matt Newton, and Jeff Newton.
