Jim Wayne Walton, age 78, passed away Saturday, November 20, 2021 at his home in Madisonville, Hollis community.

Wayne was born in Houston on July 31, 1943, where the family had moved during WWII so his father became a welder leader in building ships during the war. Wayne’s parents were Edith Viola Cannon Walton and Marvin Homer Walton. At the end of WWII, the family moved back to Madisonville, Hollis community.

Wayne grew up in Hollis community, attended Madisonville High School and was aa member of Rock Prairie Baptist Church. Wayne is with Jesus now.

Wayne joined the United States Army on June 21, 1961, stationed at Fort Ord, California, became a rifle marksman (MI), released from active duty to Army Reserve on September 16, 1962. The next day on September 17, 1962, he transferred into the United States Navy, stationed at Newport, Rhode Island.

He served on the USS Mississinewa (AO-144) as boatswain; this ship was a fueler of naval ships during Vietnam. He chose not to reenlist and was out of service October, 1966.

Wayne returned to Houston and was employed as a commercial welder for years, then later moved to Crosby, Texas, and became a farmer-rancher with his brother, Vernon Walton.

Around 2000, Wayne retired and moved back to Madisonville and lived on home place in Hollis community.

Wayne was preceded in death by both parents, Edith and Marvin Walton, brother, Vernon Lee Walton and nephew Craig Walton.

He leaves to cherish, brother, Curtis M. Walton (wife Pat) of Crosby, sister, Ann Richie (Kenneth) of Madisonville and sister-in-law, Lavern Walton (Vernon) of Crosby. Nieces and nephews: Rodney Walton, Kyle Walton, Kimberly Walton Skyrla (Michael), all of Crosby, Jason (Jillyn) Yeager, Jill (Mickey) Fite of Madisonville, and Wayne’s special friend, Cinda Neal.

Day Funeral Home made funeral arrangements. Wayne is to be buried at Rock Prairie Cemetery of Hollis community.
