Born on May 9, 1947, in Madisonville, Texas, to John F. Spivey, II, and Maebell Winn Spivey. John, affectionately called 'JP,' graduated from Marian Anderson High School in 1965, where he played basketball. Attended Prairie View A&M University, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration.

Married Lena Nell Brown; their marriage lasted 56 years, and together they raised two sons, Jonathan and Jeremy, and an unwavering, nurturing love for their grandchildren, Kenneth, Lauren, Jayla, and Kendall.

John started his early spiritual growth at Little Rock Baptist Church; later served as a Trustee Officer at Briarchase Missionary Baptist Church, and played a key role in the construction and expansion of the church building.

Began his career as an accountant with Texaco Oil Company in 1969.

During his time at Texaco, John's interest in real estate began to flourish. This growing passion led him to explore various avenues, and he realized that by combining his financial expertise with his interest in real estate, he could make a difference in his community. This journey ultimately inspired him to take a leap of faith and establish J. Spivey & Associates, Inc., where he dedicated himself to becoming an investor and partner of Lazer Homes, focusing on building affordable homes for low-income families in the Houston Metropolitan Area.

John was an avid golfer and a passionate sports fan, known for sharing insights with friends and family.

Remembered as a reserved, selfless, and generous individual whose quiet strength left a lasting legacy of kindness in his community and among loved ones.

John was laid to rest on April 11, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Gladys Mason, Clara Sandles, and Serena Wilkins. He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Lena; his sons, Jonathan (LaQuesha) and Jeremy (Kateika); his cherished grandchildren; his beloved sisters, Priscilla Yell and Aneath Pope; and a host of relatives and friends.
