Owen Craig McDonald was born March 21, 1938 in Hallettsville, Texas. His parents were Charles W. McDonald and Mary (Clayton) McDonald. When Craig graduated from high school, he went into military service with the United States Army and served the next twenty-three years. He was stationed for a time at Ft. Bragg in North Carolina and served two tours in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Craig was a member of the Special Forces and was a “Green Beret”. He was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant (E8).

After he separated from military service, he lived in North Carolina where he taught karate as a Sensei. He had his own dojo (training center) and was a Sixth Degree blackbelt. Later in life, he moved to Texas in the Bedias/Madisonville area and ranched some. He passed away on January 30, 2021 in Houston, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles and Loren and two sons, Owen Craig McDonald, Jr. and Stephen Wesley McDonald. His surviving family includes his wife of twenty-nine years, Anna Marie McDonald of Madisonville; four sons, Russell McDonald of Hopkinsville, KY, Brian McDonald of Madisonville, Michael Schramm of Willis and Benjamin Buckner of Florida and daughters, Brenda Hale (husband, Michael) of Hopkinsville, KY and Margaret Wood of San Antonio. Owen is also survived by twelve grandchildren, Owen C. McDonald, III, Tabitha Keel, Ross Hughes, Kara Shumake, Colt McDonald, Brylee McDonald, Jeffrey Wood, Cooper Wood, Ashley Slaughter, Brittny Schramm, Michael Schramm, Jr. and Cassidy Schramm and eleven great grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at 11 A.M. at the Madisonville Funeral Home. Burial with military funeral honors rendered by the U.S. Army followed at the Bedias Baptist Cemetery. Bro. Glenn Connor officiated.
