Tommy McWhorter was born on Dec. 27, 1949, and went to heaven on March 23, 2024 at 1:17 p.m. He was preceded in death by his father, Buel Dorman McWhorter and mother, Mary Lillian (Martin) McWhorter; sisters, Ella M. Lewis, Geraldine “Gerri” Hoppe, Louise Redmon, Opal “Zytte” Ferguson, and Bobbie Ann Souther. Tommy is survived by his wife, Shiela Grisham McWhorter; brother, David McWhorter (wife, Diane); sons, Thomas McWhorter (wife, Mellisa) and William Buel McWhorter (his love, Kacy); grandchildren, Callie, Tripp, Jamie, Rian, and Brodie; one great-grandchild on-the-way; numerous nieces and nephews, and lifelong family friend, Ette Pearl Rush.

Tommy was born and raised in Madison County in a rural area south of North Zulch. After graduating from North Zulch High School, Tommy attended Blinn College before getting married and starting a career at CRC as an Automatic Welding Supervisor, traveling around the world through 15 countries, 5 continents, and 5 seas. Tommy then returned home to take care of his family and run the family ranch. His greatest joy was his sons, family, and grandchildren. He enjoyed attending every event possible for his sons and grandchildren. He was an avid gardener, hunter with both gun and camera, and domino player. Tommy was a self-professed hermit, who loved being around family and friends. His generosity and understanding knew no bounds. Above all, he loved his wife with all of his heart and cherished every moment with her.

A funeral service for Tommy were held 3 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2024, at First Baptist Church. North Zulch, Texas. Bro. Dean Ferguson and Bro. Matt Murray officiated the service. Interment followed in Willowhole Cemetery, North Zulch, Texas.

Pallbearers were Don Lewis, Daryl Lewis, Cody Crocker, Justin Alewine, J.W. Alewine, Kevin Ferguson, Robert Gurley, Scott Holcomb.

Honorary Pallbearers were Tripp McWhorter, Brodie McWhorter, Stephen “Gordy” Grisham, Rob Gurley.

The family would like to say a special thank you to all of Tommy’s caregivers with Traditions Healthcare, who became his friends and felt like part of the family.

Arrangements were under the direction of Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas.
