1927 – 2025 Burke Joseph Landry, the last remaining World War II veteran in Madison County, Texas, passed away Friday, March 14, 2025 in Madisonville, Texas with his great granddaughter, Megan McBride and his daughter, Glenda Landry Collard, by his side. He was 97 years old.

James (aka Jim) Elias Baumgardner was born May 23, 1937 in a Lutheran Church Camp in the Pocono Mountains located in Pennsylvania where his parents George (aka Bummy) and Phoebe (Bosserman) Baumgardner were caretakers. Jim is survived by his children, Alesia Reese (John), James Baumgardner Jr, Maggie McGonnigil (Ken), Tracye Sanders (Paul); grandchildren, Mandy Childers, Jennifer Rohrbaugh, Justin Reese, Ryan Baumgardner, Ted Jones, Danielle Deford, Paul Dobbs Jr, Kevin Dobbs, Jesica Geeo, Meggan Thor, Shane Geeo, James Geeo Jr, Ashley Dutton, Sarah Conner; 22 great-grandchildren and long-time friend Brandye Payne.
