Willie “Charlene” (Pate) Scambray Horn, age 77, was born September 3, 1943 in Blakely, Georgia but grew up in Houston. She passed away on May 11, 2021 from heart failure. Charlene faced a lot of challenges throughout her life but persevered with a strength not many understood. She married Johnny Scambray and moved to Madisonville where she lived for more than twenty years. Several years after Johnny passed away, Charlene met Bobby Dean Horn; they married on May 10, 2014. Bobby was a wonderful, caring, loving and compassionate husband and Charlene felt so blessed.

Richard Robinson was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 22, 1934 to Agnes and Frank Robinson. He was the fourth of four sons and acquired the nickname “Dickie”. He was educated in the Philadelphia Public School system and upon High School graduation, enlisted in the United States Air Force. He had an exemplary military career which allowed him to travel extensively to Europe, North Africa, Canada, Southeast Asia, as well as Texas, California, and Utah; a career that included a tour of Vietnam where he was awarded the third-highest award for bravery in combat given by the United States Military, the Silver Star. This award honors service personnel who display exceptional valor while engaged in military combat operations against an enemy force. He went on to spend twenty-two years in the service of our country and received many commendations, medals, and awards for his devotion to duty and service to his country. He retired from the Air Force in 1972 as a Master Sergeant and Master Crew Chief. Richard pursued various other careers after retiring from the military.

Savannah Ann “Granny” Smith was born July 3, 1956 in Madisonville, Texas to parents, Arthur June and Lula Mae (Smith) Williams. Savannah accepted Christ under the leadership of Pastor James and Co-Pastor Davis at Free Pentecostal House of Prayer.

On July 8, 1990 in Houston, Texas, a handsome baby boy entered the land of the living to Mr. Eddie L. Mason, Jr. and Audurial Gilbert-James. He was named Austin Pierre’ Mason. Austin attended and graduated High School from Madisonville CISD in Madisonville, Texas in 2008. After graduating High School, Austin attended Blinn College in Brenham, Texas to study Kinesiology. Austin worked at Bucee’s for a year and then went to work in the oilfield business for EZ Construction and worked there for three years. He later went on to work at O’Reilly’s in Madisonville until his death.

On June 26, 1997, a handsome baby boy entered the world to the loving parents of the late Paul Merchant and Johnnie “Red” Nealey Merchant. Jerode graduated from Madisonville High, along with attending Blinn in Brenham, Texas.

William Scot Nevill, 54 of Iola, passed away Monday, May 3rd at CHI St. Joseph Hospital in College Station. Visitation with family and friends will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, Wednesday, May 5th at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota, Texas. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, May 6th at Bedias Baptist Church with Jerry Cole officiating. Interment will follow in Cross Cemetery in Iola. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.

In loving memory of James Reed Spencer born in Jackson KY on March 27, 1960 to Homer and Zula Faye (Potter) Spencer and passed away suddenly on April 19, 2021. James was the 3rd of 7 children and preceded in death by his father Homer and younger brother David. James is survived by his mother Zula Faye, his children Emilia Zoe, Kenneth James Fannin Spencer and his special friend Rita Dianne Fannin, his elder siblings Kenny and Thelma, his younger sister Mary Elaine and brothers Mark and Harold (affectionately known as Hippy). James will be remembered not only as the consummate hot rod enthusiast and the proprietor of “Spencer’s Texaco” in North Zulch, Tx. But also, for his gregarious personality, his love of life and his generous and loving spirit which he shared with all who knew him. He was an unforgettable presence who will be greatly missed by all.

Curtis (Stu) Washington was born on August 17, 1949 to Iola Harrison and Tenelio Washington in Midway, Texas. Curtis was a 1964 graduate of Anahuac High School.

Victoria Maxeen Hinojosa, 47 years old from Madisonville, TX; passed away on Thursday April 1, 2021 in Madisonville, TX. A celebration of Victoria’s life is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday; May 1, 2021 at Day Funeral Home Chapel in Madisonville, TX with Diana Rocha officiating minister. The burial will follow at a later date at Danforth Cemetery in Strafford, MO.
