Jones Immortalized

Normangee Panthers basketball legend Joseph Jones was honored by the high school and had his number 30 jersey retired in the presence of family and friends Friday. Jones led the Panthers to a Class 1A State Championship in 2004 before joining the Texas A&M Aggies, where he earned All-Big 12 honors in each of his four seasons. Mustang Soccer

The Madisonville soccer team split a pair of district matchups over the week with a 2-2 (4-3) victory over Livingston in a penalty shootout and a 3-1 loss to Hudson. The Livingston matchup was knotted up at 2-2 before being decided by penalty kicks with both regulation goals scored by Juan Torres. Penalty shootout goals were scored by Torres, Christian Vazquez, Issac Hinojosa and Pablo Sanchez while Alex Torres recorded one blocked shot. Both the Madisonville seventh and eighth grade boys basketball squads competed in the Franklin Invitational over the weekend and made runs to the championship game. The eighth grade squad defeated Franklin in the title matchup while the seven graders fell to Franklin. COURTESY PHOTO
