The Madisonville men’s basketball team stayed hot Friday with a 78-54 road victory over Robinson to improve to 4-2 in district play. The Mustangs avoided a letdown with their third straight win after a Jan. 26 upset victory over topranked La Vega at MHS.
The Madisonville women’s basketball team dropped a pair of district matchups to La Vega on the road Jan. 26 and Robinson at MHS Friday to fall to 2-6 in league play. The Lady Mustangs entered Tuesday’s road matchup in China Spring ranked fifth in District 18.
The North Zulch men’s basketball team split a pair of district matchups over the week with a win over Round Top-Carmine Jan. 27 and a loss to Bartlett Friday. The Bulldogs will fight for the last playoff spot in 1A District 29 in their final stretch of the regular season.

The North Zulch women’s basketball team picked up a non-district win over Cornerstone Christian in Bryan Jan. 26 and a district win over Bartlett at NZHS Friday to improve their league record to 6-2. The Lady Bulldogs traveled to Calvert Tuesday and will host Dime Box at NZHS Friday for Senior Night and their district finale.
The North Zulch High School basketball program continued their Shoot-athon fundraiser this week, in which players on all levels shoot free throws in order to raise money for the program’s needs. The event, which is still currently underway, has garnered numerous sponsors as each player shoots 100 shots to earn money based on their successes.
The Madisonville men’s soccer team dropped their final non-district matchup of the season Jan. 26 in Splendora by a score of 5-0. The Mustangs returned home to open district play against Diboll at MHS Tuesday.

Madisonville athletes Grace Williamson and Brad Rudis were slated to sign with Temple College and Texas A&M University, respectively, Wednesday to continue their volleyball and baseball careers at the collegiate level. MHS planned to hold a brief ceremony Wednesday morning in the competition gym to celebrate their accomplishments with immediate family and friends in attendance.
