Lori’s School of Dance had two squads compete at the American Cheer Power event in Galveston Saturday with each group earning top marks. The Mini Hotshots (ages 4-8) took first place in their category while the Senior Hotshots (ages 8 and older) took second. The Madisonville baseball team concluded tournament season with a 3-1 record against playoff-caliber competition in La Grange over the weekend. The Mustangs picked up wins over Sealy, Navarro and Bellville as well as a loss to Cuero.

The Madisonville softball team dropped a pair of matchups last week to conclude their non-district schedule with losses at Giddings and Navasota. The Lady Mustangs opened district play Tuesday in Mexia and will host LaVega at MHS Friday.

Madisonville’s Jer’Tavius Brown has committed to continue his football career at the collegiate level at Sterling College in Kansas. A signing ceremony is scheduled for Brown in the MHS competition gym at 3 p.m. Wednesday. CAMPBELL ATKINS

The Madisonville varsity and junior varsity tennis teams competed in a home tournament at MHS Friday. They are scheduled for one more regular season event before their district tournament March 31-April 1.

Madisonville Elementary first and second graders held their annual Kid’s Heart Challenge event in February and raised $6,015 for the American Heart Association. Madisonville’s Armando Juarez and Sidnie Smith signed their letters of intent to continue their football and volleyball careers at Sterling College in Kansas and Vernon College in Wichita Falls Monday. The ceremony, which took place in the school’s competition gym, included the athletes’ families, teammates and coaches. See News for more CAMPBELL ATKINS

The Madisonville baseball team split four contests in a weekend tournament in Anderson with wins over Brazos and Franklin and losses to Anderson-Shiro and Caldwell after defeating Elkhart at MHS March 2.

The Madisonville Lady Mustangs softball team competed in six matchups during a tournament in Franklin over the weekend, picking up two wins over New Waverly and Elkhart, losses to Crawford, Cameron Yoe and Caldwell and tying Fairfield. The team also defeated New Waverly in a standalone matchup at MHS March 2 by a score of 15-5.

All levels of Madisonville track hosted the Mustang Relays at MHS last week. The women’s side competed Wednesday at Mustangs Stadium while the men’s side competed Thursday.
