Bulldogs run-rule Oakwood, fall to Lovelady
Like a dog with a bone the North Zulch ran away with a win over Oakwood on Tuesday, April 6. North Zulch scored in every single inning to take down the Oakwood Panthers 15-5 for their first win of the season.
Oakwood jumped ahead 1-0 in their half of the first, but the Bulldogs evened things in their half of the opening inning. After Jason Ray walked on five pitches, Corbin May doubled to drive in Ray to even the game 1-1.
The Panthers retook the lead in the second 2-1 only to see it vanish in the bottom of the inning. The Bulldogs added four more runs to take control 5-2. Jonathan Medina, Trainer Malinak, Ray and Lane Van all accounted for Bulldog scores.
Oakwood would not go away however, as they bullied back into the game tying things at 5-5.
The Bulldogs kept their bats patient as they had four batters walk in their half of the third.
The patience paid off as three more runs came in giving the North Zulch full control of the contest 8-5.
In their fourth inning the Bulldogs River Gafford walked and would eventually be driven in by Dallas Drake to put the Bulldogs up 9-5. Drake would steal home to double up on the Panthers 10-5.
Two more walks followed by a double by Van drove in two more runs giving the Bulldogs an 12-5 lead. Runs 13 and 14 would come in to close out the inning.
The final run of the game came via the oddest play in baseball, a balk. With Tripp Baker at the plate, two on and a 3-0 count Oakwood balked sending Medina home to end the game.
May pitched all five innings for the Bulldogs, picking up the teams first victory of the season. The Bulldogs were in action again on April 9 against Lovelady and could not pull out the victory as they fell 16-2.
The Bulldogs took on Kennard at home on Tuesday evening.
