The North Zulch women’s basketball team won their first district matchup of the season Dec. 8 with a 65-21 rout over Round Top-Carmine. The Lady Bulldogs then fell to Iola Friday in a non-district matchup that was added to the schedule late as a replacement game.

“We got off to a good start (against Round Top-Carmine),” said head coach Michael Stenseth. “We turned them over a few times early and we were hitting shots. We had some different combinations in the second quarter. It didn't really start clicking, but once it did, it opened the floodgates. We started scoring in bunches. It was a solid road win, the effort was really good.”

A pair of first quarter three-pointers from Shae Keith and Trinitty Wallace helped the Lady Bulldogs jump out to a commanding 17-4 lead after the first quarter of play. Wallace added another pair of triples in the second quarter to essentially put the game out of reach by half.

“We were pretty clean as far as not turning the ball over too much,” said Stenseth. “When you do those things and you play with energy, you are going to have a chance to make good things happen.”

Madison Murphy added six steals in the win while Dannicka Diserens totaled eight rebounds on the defensive side of the floor.

North Zulch filled an open date by battling Iola Friday and fell by a score of 52-32 to the 2A opponent.

“We didn't have much energy and nothing went right,” said Stenseth. “Iola is considerably bigger as far as size and we didn't get any second shots.”

Kieth led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring in the loss with 11 points and was followed by Diserens with seven.

“We will have to regroup and get ready to play a good Fayetteville team (Tuesday),” said Stenseth. “We will have to be really focused and execute the game plan.” The team’s Tuesday

The team’s Tuesday matchup at Fayetteville was their second district matchup of the season. They will host Buckholts Friday before taking another break from district play with four matchups against Milano, Caldwell, Leon and Iola.
