The Madisonville softball team fell to 1-3 in district play with a pair of losses on the week to Robinson and China Spring and a victory over La Vega. The Lady Mustangs concluded their first stint of district Thursday in Connally.

Madisonville started the week with a 12-2 victory over La Vega in which they recorded 16 hits and jumped out to an early 5-0 advantage in the bottom of the first to even their district mark at the time.

Five Lady Mustang players recorded multi-RBI games in the win with Grace Coleman leading the charge with three on as many hits. Maegan Anderson logged all five innings in the mercy-rule abbreviated matchup and allowed just one earned run on three hits.

The team led off the bottom of the first inning with three straight singles to seize an early lead before a Martia Tyler double to centerfield spelled a big first inning. With two outs and Tyler aboard, Kyndall Creighton launched a two-run homerun over the centerfield fence to give the team a 5-1 advantage.

The Lady Mustangs began an inning with three straight singles for the second straight time in their next at-bat to set up a sacrifice fly from Anderson and a two-RBI double to left field from Grace Williamson to take an 8-1 advantage.

Leading 9-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Coleman ensured an early night with a double to centerfield to plate Darby Burke, Brynlee Urbantke and Sidnie Smith. The knock gave the team a 10-run lead and ended the game.

On Friday, the Lady Mustangs allowed four runs in the first and sixth innings to fall 8-3 at Robinson despite a nine-hit effort on the offensive side.

Trailing 4-0 in the top of the second, Madisonville loaded the bases with a hit-by-pitch and a pair of singles from Burke and Urbantke. Tyler would score first for the team later in the inning off an error before Burke came around on a Smith sacrifice fly to cut the score in half.

The Lady Mustangs could not take advantage of opportunities to score down the stretch to continue trimming the deficit. Instead, Robinson jumped out to an 8-2 advantage with another four spot in the bottom of the sixth for plenty of late insurance.

Williamson would bring home the final run of the night in the top of the seventh with an RBI-groundout to plate Coleman.

Anderson pitched the majority of the game for the Lady Mustangs before she was relieved by Creighton in the seventh.

China Spring jumped out on top of Madisonville early and kept the offensive pressure on throughout at MHS Monday to defeat the Lady Mustangs 12-1 in five innings. The Cougars scored four runs in the top of the first, a pair in the second and five in the third to build a sizable advantage and remain unbeaten in district.

The Lady Mustangs recorded just a pair of hits in the loss. Smith scored the team’s lone run in the bottom of the fourth on a passed ball after stealing third base. Smith and Burke were responsible for Madisonville’s hits on the night.

Madisonville battled Connally on the road Thursday and will begin their second stint of district against Mexia at MHS Tuesday.
