Tra’Dayja Smith continues to be recognized for her basketball play. The Madisonville High

The Madisonville High School graduate was named to the all-Big South Conference honorable mention team. The senior point guard averaged 5.4 assists per game for Longwood University to lead the conference in assists a second consecutive year. Her career-high 15 assists during a win over Charleston Southern led players from both teams and tied Longwood’s single-game record.

Smith started all 25 games — just as she started every game last year — and averaged 9.8 points and 3.6 rebounds. She scored in double figures 12 times. She had a season high of 20 points against High Point, when she had a season-high 10 rebounds for her lone double-double of the season.

More women’s basketball

Madisonville alumna Alexia Leveston started 13- of-16 games for Langston University. The senior forward averaged 3.7 points and 2.8 rebounds.

Baseball

Cisco College pitcher Bryce Bennett had a 0-1 record and 11.57 earned run average in six appearances. The Madisonville graduate had not allowed an earned run in four consecutive outings before allowing three earned runs in one-third inning of a March 10 loss, which elevated his ERA.

Sam Houston State University pitcher Matt Rudis had a 0-1 record and 7.45 ERA in five relief appearances. He played for the Mustangs.

Men’s golf

Wes Nolen led LeTourneau University by finishing sixth at the Hal Sutton Invitational. The junior, who competed for two years for Normangee High School, shot 147 (75-72). Through three tournaments, he had a 76.63 scoring average, second on the team. He was named to the all-Texas Cup tournament team after tying for fourth in that event.

Junior Sam Bennett led Texas A&M University by tying for 30th at the Tiger Invitational. The past Mustang shot 216 (71-76-69).

University of Houston senior Logan Young competed as an individual in the Valspar Collegiate Invitational and tied for 36th. He was third among the nine Cougars competing and the team’s top individual. The Normangee product shot 220 (70-76-74).

Former Mustang Brylen Mills is no longer on the Tyler Junior College roster.
