A number of slated Madisonville High School sporting events have been canceled or moved due to this week's winter weather conditions, MCISD Athletic Director Rusty Nail reported.

As of 11 a.m. Thursday, the MHS men’s basketball team’s final district matchup against La Vega in Waco Friday remained on schedule.

“We are in contact with meteorologists and TxDOT concerning travel to Waco Friday,” said Nail in a Thursday email. “Waco is much worse today than it is expected to be tomorrow, as temperatures are expected to be in the low 40s (Friday) and to remain that way until 2 a.m. Sunday.

“As of this moment, we plan to travel to La Vega for the final district game to be played at 5 p.m. Obviously, if we are advised it is unsafe, we will reschedule for Saturday afternoon.”

The altered or canceled events, so far, are as follows:

The MHS baseball program’s activities in Caldwell Friday have been canceled.

The varsity baseball team’s scrimmage against Cameron has been moved to Wednesday from Tuesday and the junior varsity matchups have been canceled. If the weather persists and the game cannot be played Wednesday, it will be removed from the schedule entirely.

Both the varsity and junior varsity contests against Cameron Tuesday have been canceled.

Both MHS men’s and women’s soccer matchups scheduled for Friday in Palestine have been canceled.

The men’s soccer matchup against Livingston at MHS Tuesday has been moved to Wednesday and will feature varsity matchups only. The women’s soccer matchup in Livingston has also been moved to Wednesday.

The junior high contests for both men’s and women’s basketball scheduled for Thursday have been canceled. According to Nail, Hometown Ticketing is working on refunding the 43 fans that had purchased tickets for these matchups. The money will be refunded to the credit or debit cards in the next couple of business days.
