From the Precinct 1 desk: Happy New Year! I wanted to update on progress of the end of the year, address some concerns, and share some things headed your way. We were able to finish the year strong by placing 47 loads of rock on Precinct 1 roads over December 28-30.

I’ve always felt bad for folks with birthdays at New Year’s, because often they don’t get their due celebration. Other major life events are probably somewhat neglected then too. Therefore today’s Musings focuses on folks for which December 31 or January 1 had lots of impact. Facts were drawn from “A History of Madison County, Texas”, the first edition.

Most Texas pregnancy deaths preventable

A long-awaited state report concludes most pregnancy-related deaths in Texas in 2019 were preventable and disproportionately affected Black women. The report, issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services and the Texas Maternal Mortality and Morbidity Committee, indicated deaths were mainly attributable to hemorrhage, mental health conditions and blood clots.

LEAD STORY -- THE ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT RayLee Holladay and her husband, Bubba, live in Lascassas, Tennessee, where they raise cows. About six years ago, WKRN-TV reported, RayLee had been seeking a venture of her own to bring in money on the farm when she discovered Rent The Chicken, a business founded by Phil and Jenn Tompkins of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
