Four Madisonville school board members renewed their oaths of office at the monthly MCISD school board meeting for June Monday. Board members Dennis McWhorter, Jason Cleere, Dale Hurst and Greg McBee were all reelected to retain their seats on the board May 1.

A fundraising benefit will be held for local DPS Trooper Juan Tover at the Madisonville Sidewalk Cattlemen’s Association Pavillion Saturday. The event, which is scheduled to last from 5 p.m. until 11 p.m., will include a steak dinner, cash bar, live and silent auctions as well as a raffle. Live music will be performed by Jason Cassidy (7 p.m.) and Rick Trevino (9:30 p.m.).

The following story was published prior to Tuesday afternoon’s press conference concerning the crash investigation. A single-engine airplane crashed short of the runway at Madisonville Municipal Airport early Monday morning, resulting in the death of 68-year-old Apolo Diaz, age 68, of Kansas City, Mo., according to officials.

Ramona Posada Valdez, 79, of Madisonville Texas, passed away on June 8, 2021 in Madisonville, Texas. A Rosary was held Friday, June 11, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Madisonville Funeral Home, 1511 E.

Patricia Ann Phillips, 73, of Madisonville, Texas passed away on June 7, 2021. Patricia was born on March 4, 1948, to Harold Eugene Aman and Helen Laverne Singleton in Bridgeport, Texas. Patricia had lived in Madison County since 2014 coming from Elkhart, Texas. During her life, Patricia was a hairdresser for many years and a housewife. She also handmade clothes for her children. Looking back now, her children thought the clothes were beautiful. Patricia dedicated her entire life to Christ. She was a devoted Christian woman with a heart of gold.

In the morning … Martha Ella Brown was the baby of five siblings born to Rich and Arizona June Brown. She was born September 27, 1937 in Madisonville, Madison County, Texas.

Dr. Mark Leon Bennett, age 53, of Madisonville, Texas passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 in College Station, Texas. Mark’s life was celebrated at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at The First United Methodist Church in Madisonville, TX. The visitation began at noon in Wesley Hall at The First United Methodist Church. Rev. Jim Jackson officiated.

Our little country town has another hometown hero. Hats off to Sam Bennett. Who, during June 11-13, was a part of Team USA competing in the Arnold Palmer Cup Championship, the International collegiate event between the United States and Europe.
