Texas A&M junior golfer and Madisonville alumni Sam Bennett represented Texas A&M for Team USA in the Arnold Palmer Cup, which took place this past weekend June 11-13. Bennett helped the Aggies to their thirteenth win since the event’s creation back in 1997.

Lori’s School of Dance, Tumbling and Cheerleading held their 21st Dance Tumbling and Cheerleading recital in the Madisonville High School auditorium Saturday. The event included tumbling, cheerleading and martial arts routines as competitive and non-competitive teams performed for their friends and families.

The Madisonville football team began their seven-on-seven summer activities at MHS Monday and are planning to compete in similar events every Monday they can in the month of June. The schedule, however, is tentative as two events have already been canceled due to weather.

On June 14th, 244 years ago, the Second Continental Congress met under the leadership of John Hancock in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Outside of those walls, citizens from what used to be 13 individual colonies fought as one against the oppressive British Crown. That day, the delegates adopted a design for the original American Flag for soldiers and citizens to rally behind on their quest for total independence. Still today we celebrate June 14th as Flag Day in America, and I hope you’ll proudly display the stars and stripes in honor of all who have fought so bravely for our freedom.

Roy R. Reynolds, publisher of the Madisonville Meteor from March of 2019 through December, passed away at his Huntsville residence last week.

The event was held at the organization’s Madisonville headquarters and home of CEO and founder Jeff Anderson on State Street and a number of donors, veterans and law enforcement officials were in attendance. The event included a silent auction as well as activities and delicious BBQ.
