Demita Nannette Sweet was born July 13, 1964, in Madisonville, Texas, to the union of the late Eddie L. Mason, Sr. and Gladys M. Spivey Mason. Her formative years were spent in the Madisonville Community, where she gave her life to Christ at a very early age. She was a faithful and active member of the Lakeview Baptist Church until she moved to Houston, Texas, where she attended Brookhollow Baptist Church.

Mary Jane (Powell) Andrews; 86 of Madisonville, TX; passed away at her home on Monday; July 19, 2021. Funeral services were scheduled for 11 a.m. on Thursday; July 22, 2021, at The First Baptist Church in Madisonville, TX with Bro. Charles Higgs officiating. There was a visitation prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. and the burial followed the service at Madisonville Cemetery.

The Madisonville Lady Mustangs softball team will have a new leader next spring. Coach James Croley takes over the reins for Coach Ashley Renner. Coach Croley took over the Lady Mustang position this past May and looks to bring his brand of “gorilla ball” to Madisonville.

Jeff Jefferson Jr. is following in his father’s footsteps and returning to his roots in Madisonville, his hometown, to take over the role of head women’s basketball coach for the storied Lady Mustangs program at MHS.

The Madison County 4-H and Youth Development Program’s Livestock Judging team hosted their first summer workshop for Madison, Leon, Walker and Houston Counties’ students last week. The event, which lasted Tuesday through Thursday, was hosted by the Madison County 4-H Extension Office and led by 4-H Program Assistant, Eliza Nuncio.

Sue is a precious girl around 18 months old and about 25 pounds. She is believed to be a Pug mix. She would love a patient, loving home and is still figuring out how to walk on a leash. Sue is very submissive and we feel she would thrive with positive reinforcement. She is up to date on all shots and preventative, heartworm negative, spayed, and ready for her forever home.
