Gary Don Hines went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at the age of 70 in Williamsburg, Virginia. He left this earth surrounded by family and friends singing and praising God as we shared our love with this precious “gentle giant”.
The Madisonville soccer team picked up a pair of victories over the week with a 3-1 district win against New Waverly and a 2-1 non-district win over Tyler. The Mustangs saw goals from Issac Hinojosa, Vladimir Morales and Juan Torres against New Waverly with assists from Cristian Vasquez and Gabriel Aceves. The Madisonville baseball program will be hosting their annual “Our Day to Shine” scrimmage Tuesday, Feb. 8, against Bellville at MHS at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. The scrimmage will benefit the Texas High School Coaches Education Foundation’s Benevolence to assist athletes and coaches experiencing hardships. Attendees can donate to this great cause at the gate upon entrance or send their donations to Venmo via @ THSCAcoaches
Former Madisonville and current Sam Houston State football player Chris Scott was awarded a full scholarship by SHSU football last week. The defensive lineman has also applied for the masters program and graduates this spring. Scott will play next fall as a graduate student-athlete for the Bearcats. The North Zulch women’s basketball team battled the top and bottom of district over the week with a 79-31 loss to undefeated Fayetteville Jan. 25 on the road and a 67-17 win over Buckholts at NZHS Friday.
