The Madisonville Consolidated Independent School District (MCISD) School Board held their monthly meeting for December Monday and heard the district’s yearly transportation report from a representative from Durham School Services.

Madison County District Attorney Brian Risinger formally announced his bid for reelection in a written announcement this week. He is seeking to retain the office he has held since 2011.

The North Zulch Elementary Student Council, which was formed this year, orchestrated a community service project this semester that brought a Little Free Library to the community, making it easier for their citizens to access a broad range of of book titles closer to home.

The Madisonville women’s basketball team competed in a tournament in Centerville over the weekend and split six matchups for an overall record of 3-3. The Lady Mustangs returned to MHS Tuesday to host Hudson.

An offseason commitment to conditioning is paying off for basketball player Jazzmyn Jones. Through eight games (2-6) for the Centenary College of Louisiana women's team, the junior out of Normangee High School posted career numbers.

After qualifying for the 4A state playoffs for the first time in four seasons, the Madisonville football team garnered a number of All-District awards last week for their performance in 2021. Running back Blessing Ngene earned First Team All-District honors on the offensive side of the ball for his breakout season, which included 798 yards on 96 attempts (8.3 yards per carry) as well as a team-leading 11 touchdowns.
