Elizabeth Jo “Doe Doe” Cannon, 94, of Madisonville, TX went to be with the Lord on June 25, 2021. She was born December 25, 1926 in Madisonville, TX to Ephriam Loyd and Bessie Jane Winters Whitmire. Jo is preceded in death by her parents; husband Will Ernest Cannon; brothers Dalton Sidney Whitmire and Loyd Junior Whitmire and sister Freeda Coece Whitmire Murray. She is survived by her children and their spouses Bill Cannon (Sherry), Dianne Simpson (Bill), Carl Cannon (Lisa) and Joe Lloyd Cannon (Shirley); grandchildren Clint Cannon (Lacey), Hillary Hathorn (Jason), Will Simpson, Dixie Lacy (Matt), Dustin Cannon (Mandy), Caroline Boyd (Tyler), Corey Cannon and Lori Patterson (Chris); 11 great grandchildren and numerous other family members and friends.

Jo was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, Madisonville, where she was on the Cradle Roll Committee, where they registered new babies and visited the mothers of the babies, taught Vacation Bible School, Sunday School and was a member of the Women’s Mission Union (WMU), taking mission trips to Brazil, New Zealand and Australia. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Doe Doe, as the grandkids and all their friends called her, was a Godly woman and loved her family unconditionally. She always had a smile on her face and never complained about anything. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A viewing was held 5-7 p.m., Monday, June 28, 2021 at Day Funeral Chapel. The family received visitors from 10:00-10:30 and the funeral service began at 10:30, Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at First Baptist Church, Madisonville. Interment followed in High Prairie Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Jo’s grandsons Clint Cannon, Will Simpson, Dustin Cannon, Jason Hathorn, Matt Lacy, Chris Patterson and Tyler Boyd.

A special thanks to her caregivers while she was living at home and at Texas Loving Care. She loved the excellent care, companionship and conversations. They lovingly treated her like a family member of their own.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Madisonville, or American Cancer Society, which Jo was a long-time volunteer and contributor.
