Daniel Young has been hitting extremely well to begin the baseball season. The Madisonville High School graduate batted a team-best .417 through 10 games (9-1) for Tyler Junior College.
The Madisonville men’s basketball team bounced back from a pair of back-to-back district losses last week with three straight victories over Robinson Feb. 1, Mexia Saturday and China Spring Monday. The Mustangs were sitting in third place in district behind Connally and LaVega at the time of this writing.
The Madisonville women’s basketball team won their fifth straight district matchup Monday over China Spring to improve to 7-2 in league play and secure the second seed in the postseason. The North Zulch women’s basketball team split a pair of district matchups over the week with a win over Calvert and loss to Bartlett. The shorthanded Lady Bulldogs concluded their district season Tuesday with a matchup against Dime Box, which would decide whether they would be a three seed or four seed entering the postseason.

The Madisonville soccer team picked up a district victory over Trinity this week by a score of 3-0 with goals coming from Erick Martinez and two from Vladimir Morales. The North Zulch women’s basketball team battled the top and bottom of district over the week with a 79-31 loss to undefeated Fayetteville Jan. 25 on the road and a 67-17 win over Buckholts at NZHS Friday.
Former Madisonville and current Sam Houston State football player Chris Scott was awarded a full scholarship by SHSU football last week. The defensive lineman has also applied for the masters program and graduates this spring. Scott will play next fall as a graduate student-athlete for the Bearcats.
