Severe storms damage roads
Body
Heavy rains and severe storms damaged roads and caused flooding in Madison County over the weekend. Some areas received up to six inches of rain. The rain washed out roads and closed schools on Monday, April 29 The Crabb’s Prairie Volunteer Fire Department said Farm to Market Road 2989 near the Madison-Walker County line was utterly washed out. It left a 30-foot wide, 20-foot deep hole. TxDOT is working to repair the damage. The road is still closed.
Man sentenced to 20 years for Aggravated Robbery

Jeramie Garrett received a 20-year prison sentence for aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. District Attorney Courtney Cain announced the sentencing on April 22.
Man on trial for trafficking minor daughter

The bench trial of Shawn Allen, 35, began Monday, April 29, at the Madison County Courthouse. Allen faces felony charges of sexual assault of a child, trafficking a minor for sexual purposes, and assault on a family member.
Community forms coalition

When an EF1 tornado hit Madison County in March 2022, it exposed weaknesses in the community’s disaster readiness. After two years, local leaders formed the Madison Community Coalition, which had its first meeting on Thursday, April 25.
