Both the Madisonville baseball and softball programs will participate in scrimmages at MHS Tuesday (Feb. 9) in which all proceeds will benefit the Texas High School Coaches Education Foundation’s Benevolence Fund. The Fund was established by the Texas High School Coaches Association Board of Directors to assist athletes and coaches experiencing hardships. The public is invited to attend or can make donations via Venmo @THSCAcoaches. The Mustang baseball squads will scrimmage against Bellville at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. while the softball squads scrimmage Elkhart at 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.

The North Zulch High School basketball program continued their Shoot-athon fundraiser this week, in which players on all levels shoot free throws in order to raise money for the program’s needs. The event, which is still currently underway, has garnered numerous sponsors as each player shoots 100 shots to earn money based on their successes.

She was born June 8, 1955, and is survived by her daughter Taylor Inglish Woods (Garrett) of Senatobia MS; her son Austin Bailey Inglish of Amite, LA; her sister Lisa Wilson Johnson (Karl) of Naples FL; her nephew Jason Wilson of Fort Myers FL and her granddaughter Harper Woods.

Jerry Davidson Harper of Madisonville, TX; 83 years, 5 months, 13 days; passed away at his home on Monday; January 25, 2021. A celebration of Jerry’s life was scheduled for Saturday at 2PM at The First Baptist Church in Madisonville, TX with Bro. Troy Brooks officiating. The visitation was also scheduled for Saturday at The First Baptist Church beginning at Noon. The burial followed at Ten Mile Cemetery in Normangee, TX.

Imogene (Emert) Gafford; 75 years, 11 months, 20 days; from Bedias, TX; passed away on Friday; January 29, 2021 in Houston, TX. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday; February 4, 2021 from 5-7PM at Day Funeral Home Chapel in Madisonville, TX where family and friends can celebrate Imogene’s life. A private family burial will be held at Rock Prairie Cemetery in Madisonville, TX at a later date.

George Stanton Newton; 72 years, 4 months, 11 days; of Bedias, TX; passed away on Friday; January 29, 2021 in College Station, TX. The funeral services are scheduled for 11AM on Wednesday; February 3, 2021 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Bedias, TX with the burial to follow in Pankey Cemetery in Bedias, TX. The visitation is scheduled to begin at LOAM prior to the service. Jerry Cole, Jr. will officiate.

Raymond Douglas Byrd, 75, passed away on January 29, 2021 while surrounded by his loving family. His passing was due to complications caused by COVID pneumonia.

Frances Cooley passed away January 19, 2021, at the age of 91, from complications with COVID-19. Frances was born on November 8, 1929 in North Zulch, Texas, to George and Emilee Boswell.
