It’s a sad time in our town for several families. First, passed away last Sunday.

On Wednesday, April 12, over 1,200 retired teachers from all across Texas gathered at the capitol in Austin for the annual Red Day Rally organized by the Texas Retired Teacher Association. The rally aimed to advocate for a Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for retired teachers and to engage with their Senators and Representatives on this critical issue.

The Madisonville FFA have been competing in multiple Area IX CDE (Career Development Events) contests since March 30th. Several teams will be advancing to the State competitions in the coming weeks which will be held in multiple cities across Texas.

I write these pieces on behalf of Madison County Museum and Madison County Historical Commission. With the latter currently working towards publishing Volume 3 of local history, I’m hoping to inspire you to start writing your part! Last week I wrote about some unforgettable neighbors from when I lived within Madisonville’s city limits, but todays are from the Laceola community, where I’ve lived the biggest part of my life.

Fred Arthur Henson, 72 years, of Madisonville; was called to his heavenly home on Monday, April 17, 2023, surrounded by his family. Fred’s life will be celebrated at 10AM on Monday; April 24, 2023, at The First Baptist Church in Madisonville, TX with Bro. Chris Kelso and Bro. Charles Higgs officiating. The burial will follow at Allphin Cemetery in Madison County, TX. The visitation is scheduled from 4-6PM on Sunday; April 23, 2023, at Fannin Oaks in Madisonville.

Roxanne (Russell) Roundtree; 44 years, 6 months, 24 days; of Madisonville; passed away at her home on Saturday; April 15, 2023. Roxanne’s life will be celebrated with graveside services at 1PM on Sunday; April 23 at Greer Cemetery in Madisonville. Her husband, Don, will officiate along with Dennis Ivey.
