1939-2024 Marie Lanham, age 85, was called home on May 18, 2024, in Madison County, Texas. Marie (as she preferred to be called) is survived by daughter, Dee Barnes, and husband, Aaron and grandson, Lawson of Normangee, TX; son, Bob Lanham and wife, Pam of Katy, TX; granddaughter, Jenny Greenlief and husband, Kiefer of Houston, TX; and sister Linda Shrimpton Connor and husband, Glenn of Normangee, TX.

Seven Texas counties have been approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency for grants for emergency work and replacement of disaster-damaged public infrastructure, after severe weather and flooding struck much of Deep East Texas, Gov. Gregg Abbott’s office reported. Counties eligible for FEMA’s Public Assistance program include Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, Polk, San Jacinto, Trinity and Walker.

1938-2024 H. Lytle Noey, a dedicated rancher and beloved resident of the Hilltop Lakes Community, left this world peacefully on May 18, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones at his home in Hilltop Lakes.

Local extension agents say the 2024 Farm Bill, also known as the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2024, could help farmers and ranchers in Madison County. Allen Homann, a county extension agent from Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, and Ty Jordan, an extension agent from Prairie View A&M University Extension, believe the bill could positively impact their work and the local agricultural community.

Bethany Janner has joined the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Madison County as the new 4-H Program Assistant. Janner will work with County Extension Agent Allen to grow and improve the county’s 4-H program.

On Tuesday, May 21, Governor Greg Abbott announced that the Texas Health and Human Services Commission is awarding $17 million in grant funding to eligible rural hospitals to improve healthcare services for rural communities.
