CAMPBELL ATKINS Armando ‘Chopp’ Juarez committed to continue his football career at the collegiate level with Sterling College in Kansas this week. Madisonville High School will celebrate his next step with a signing ceremony in the competition gym March 8 at 3 p.m..

Lady Dogs fall in Area playoffs

The North Zulch women’s basketball team fell to McMullen County (Tilden) in the Area playoff round in Flatonia Saturday by a score of 62-53 to conclude their season. “When I first saw (Tilden) on film I knew they were potentially very dangerous,” said head coach Michael Stenseth on the opponent, who finished atop their district and earned a bye in the Bi-District round.

The Madisonville baseball team returned to the field Tuesday after a hiatus due to the winter storm to host Malakoff in their season opener after just a pair of scrimmages. The Mustangs will host a tournament at MHS beginning Thursday and compete against Fairfield (9 a.m.), Woodville (5 p.m.) and La Grange ( 7 p.m.) on the first day.

Weather has been a popular topic of conversation for the last two weeks and was on my mind when I sought a Musings topic. Currently Volume 1 of Madison County history is not available for purchase, but we are working to convert it into a searchable computer document that will later be available for purchase on a USB flash drive, or, for you non-techies, an inexpensive computer plug-in device. I took advantage of what we have so far and searched “weather”. I’m sharing some of what I found.
