Governor Abbott Celebrates Courage Of New Graduates At DPS Ceremony

AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott today celebrated new law enforcement graduates who answered the call to serve and protect their fellow Texans at the Texas Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Recruit Class C-2022 Graduation Ceremony in Austin. During his keynote address, the Governor congratulated the 60 graduate troopers on completing the rigorous 29-week training program and highlighted DPS’ critical role in protecting Texans across the state.

Ryder Davis, a 12-year-old Madison County youngster, hit the jackpot April 28 while competing at the United States Team Roping Championships National Finals of Team Roping at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth. He and his partner posted a composite time of 33.18 on four steers in the Classic Equine #8.5 Shootout to take top money, $25,700 each! When asked later about his biggest winning check before this one, he said it had been $3K. What a difference!

Local Methodist Women Honor MHS Seniors with Annual Luncheon

The First Methodist Church of Madisonville organized its annual event to honor Madisonville High School seniors leaving for college or other pursuits on Friday, May 5. The luncheon has been a tradition for at least 60 years, and this year's class of 2023 was described as a 'really special class' by Kristi Cleere, one of the organizers.
