The remains of Houston man Henry Schelsteder were located after the 69-year-old was reported missing while traveling through Madison County last week. Officials found Schelsteder’s body inside a wrecked vehicle in Walker County Monday.

The Madisonville Sidewalk Cattlemen’s Association held their 82nd Annual Steak Dinner at their pavilion Saturday. The event featured students’ Ag mechanics projects, dinner, a silent auction and live entertainment from Kenny Orts and No Chance. The Ten Mile Cemetery Association (TMCA), in conjunction with the Madison County Historical Commission (MCHC), held a dedication ceremony Saturday to unveil their recently received Historic Texas Cemetery Marker, before a crowd of about 50.

Madisonville CISD teachers will receive a 4% pay increase with the new school year, raising the base pay for new teachers in the district to $50,000 annually, Superintendent Keith Smith announced during Monday’s board meeting.

North Zulch FCCLA is raising money for the students in their organization representing the state of Texas at the National FCCLA Leadership Conference in San Diego June. The organization is holding a street dance featuring Jody Bartula and the Barflies on Saturday.

Lexi Harris has been an accomplished hitter her whole college softball career, but the Normangee High School graduate has taken her hitting to another level. After batting a career-high .378 last year for University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, the senior led the starters with a .416 average through the first 34 games this season.
