The Madison County Sheriff’s Office apprehended a number of undocumented individuals crowded into a vehicle on I-45 northbound near mile marker 152 Saturday. The driver and passenger of the vehicle who, according to officials, were mother and son, were arrested on nine counts of human smuggling.

The Madison County Fair kicked off with its opening ceremonies Thursday, where Natalie Newton was named the 2022 MCFA Queen. Morgan Whitesides was named First Runner-Up while Cheyenne Brockman earned Second Runner-Up and Payton Brown was named Most Photogenic. North Zulch Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) held their Shattered Dreams presentations on campus March 9-10 to showcase awareness for potential dangers on the roadways. The activities began March 9 with an extremely realistic accident presentation, which included all of the necessary place of a mother during a personal injury trial and Brazos Valley Injury Prevention Coalition presented stats for Madison and Leon counties.

Parts of Madisonville and surrounding areas were severely damaged by a tornado late Monday night and early Tuesday morning. The storm ravaged a number of local structures and businesses and officials were still assessing the damage at the time of this writing. The power remained out Tuesday and local government agencies did not open until 10 a.m.

Two women were seen on camera robbing the cash register at Fancy Nails, a salon located on Main Street in Madisonville, Friday evening while the employees were busy working. According to Tudie Vu, the store’s owner, the by Vu on Facebook Sunday. The 24-second clip clearly shows one of the individuals shield the other using one of the store’s menu displays, allowing her to remove cash and checks from behind the counter. All told, they took $369 in cash and $68 in checks.

The Madisonville men’s basketball team received four 18-4A All-District selections for their work during the 2021-22 season, including First Team selections Xzavier Whaley and Wayne Roundtree as well as Second Team selections Anqwan Morning and James Whaley. CAMPBELL ATKINS
