Community comes together in wake of disaster

Madison County, mainly the City of Madisonville, experienced a vicious tornado late March 21 into the early hours of March 22, which resulted in the destruction of a number of local businesses as well as homes. Despite the tragic circumstances, no deaths were reported and local agencies and citizens alike answered the call to help their fellow neighbors and community.
TORNADO STRIKES

Madisonville citizens and officials alike, as well as outside friends, have worked tirelessly to assist in the aftermath of last week’s devastating tornado, which destroyed a number of local homes and businesses. Those in need of assistance are encouraged to attend Wednesday’s Multi-Agency Resource Center at the First Baptist Church of Madisonville, where numerous local agencies will provide help to those impacted. MCSO assists in high-speed pursuit

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Harris County Constables Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Walker County Sheriff’s Office with a pursuit out of Harris County that ended in Madisonville Thursday.
Grand and Reserve Fair Champions

The 2022 Madison County Fair concluded last week after another impressive showing by local youth. The following individuals were named Grand or Reserve Champions for their work in their respective categories.
Stangs start district strong

The Madisonville baseball team started district play on the right note Friday with an 8-2 victory over the Robinson Rockets at MHS. The Mustangs looked to make it two straight to start district with a matchup at China Spring Tuesday.
LOCAL HONOREES

The Captain John McAdams Chapter of the Daughters of the American honored local residents Biva Byrd and Sandra Guice at their meeting March 21. Byrd, who taught business courses at MCISD for over 30 years was named the 2022 Woman in history. Among her memories is Ann Standley (now Ann Poe) qualifying for State competition in typing and Jerry Watson winning State competition in 1988. Guice was presented a certificate naming her the Community Service recipient for 2022. She has been the Parent Center Coordinator for more than 20 years at MCISD and works on all campuses to provide whatever is needed to help the student have the best education experience possible. She has worked with parents to help them earn citizenship, provides transportation for students to go to doctor or dentist appointments, finds needed clothing as well as many other necessities.
