.On Saturday, June 1, the Madisonville Volunteer Fire Department hosted its first, “Fire in the Hole” golf tournament at Fannin Oaks golf course. The fundraiser featured a four-person team scramble format, bringing together supporters of the fire department.
The North Zulch men’s basketball team split a pair of district matchups last week with a 48-34 win over Bartlett Jan. 5 and a 72-47 loss to Calvert at NZHS Friday. The split brought the Bulldogs’ overall district record to 3-1 entering Tuesday’s road matchup at Dime Box.
The Madisonville men’s soccer team welcomed 11 teams to Mustang Stadium Thursday through Saturday to compete in the program’s annual tournament at MHS. Eight of the 11 teams advanced to the tournament round, which took place Saturday.
The Madisonville women’s soccer team rebounded from a tough 8-0 loss in Huntsville to open their regular season Jan. 5 with a 1-0 win in Splendora Friday, the program’s first victory under new head coach Kourtney Johnson.
The Madisonville women’s basketball team began league play Tuesday in Mexia after concluding their non-district slate with a 55-36 win in Navasota Dec. 30. Olyvia Brooks led the Lady Mustangs in scoring in the victorywith 16 points.
The Madisonville men’s basketball team stayed hot in non-district play with three wins last week, including a 59-57 victory over Magnolia Thursday at MHS. “That was our best game all year,” said head coach Brad Taylor on Thursday’s win.
The North Zulch women’s basketball team picked up a pair of victories over former district foes Iola and Burton before resuming league play with a matchup in Bartlett Tuesday. The Lady Bulldogs were 1-1 in district entering Tuesday’s road matchup.
The Madisonville women’s basketball team picked up a pair of victories on the weekend with a 51-35 win over Hull Daisetta Friday and a 38-26 win over Willis Saturday. The Lady Mustangs looked to make it three straight with a road matchup in Normangee Tuesday.
The Madisonville men’s basketball team posted back-to-back victories over the weekend with a 41-32 win in Sealy Friday and a 61-53 win over Centerville Saturday. Sophomore Casey Holiday led the Mustangs in scoring in each contest with 19 and 26 points, respectively.
The North Zulch women’s basketball team won their first district matchup of the season Dec. 8 with a 65-21 rout over Round Top-Carmine. The Lady Bulldogs then fell to Iola Friday in a non-district matchup that was added to the schedule late as a replacement game.
LOST AND FOUND Two Angelina County game wardens responded to a call about a lost hunter in Angelina National Forest. Upon arrival at the scene, the wardens found out the man had been missing for several hours and was a diabetic.
