The Madisonville High School Mustangs varsity baseball team won both of its district games last week, beating Center 7-3 on Tuesday, April 7 and Rusk 4-2 on Friday, April 10 to improve to 13-11 on the season. Center struck first Tuesday.

The Madisonville High School Lady Mustangs varsity softball team won both of its district games last week, routing Center 16-5 on Tuesday, April 7 and coming from behind to beat Rusk 12-10 on Friday, April 10 to improve to 14-15 on the season. The Lady Mustangs buried Center early.

PALESTINE --- Madisonville High School track athletes claimed three relay titles and a handful of individual gold medals at the District 17-4A meet Wednesday, April 8 and Thursday, April 9 at Palestine High School, qualifying for area competition in more than a dozen events. The boys 4x100 relay team of Jaden Simpson, Konnor Greer, Tristan Whaley and Kedrick Moffett took first place. Greer, Chris Tolliver, Simpson and Whaley also won gold in the 4x200 relay.

Campbell, Goodwin close out Center after 10-0 loss at Bullard Lane Beckett doubled to right field with two outs in the sixth inning Thursday, April 2 to score Malik Kovar and Gavin Kovar and give the Madisonville High School Mustangs varsity baseball team a 5-3 win over Center for their first district victory of the season. It was a needed result after a rough week.

Ellie West struck out eight batters in seven innings Thursday, April 2 against Center, and the Madisonville High School Lady Mustangs backed her up with nine runs to earn a 9-0 district win after a lopsided loss to Bullard three days earlier. Bullard’s Brannen struck out 10 Lady Mustangs in four innings Tuesday, March 31 as the Panthers won 11-0.

Madisonville Elementary first and second graders take part in the school's annual Kid's Heart Challenge. Students raised more than $6,400 for the American Heart Association to fight heart disease and heart defects.

LITTLE DRIBBLERS WRAP UP SEASON

The Madisonville High School Lady Mustangs varsity softball team hit a wall in its first weeks of district play, losing five of six games between March 9 and March 27 to fall to 11-14 on the season. The lone bright spot came Tuesday, March 17 against Palestine at home.

Van put an end to the best Madisonville High School varsity boys soccer season in recent memory Monday, March 24, beating the Mustangs 5-1 in the area round at the Jacksonville Tomato Bowl. Madisonville finished 15-5-1 overall and 9-2-1 in University Interscholastic League 4A District 16, good for second place behind Palestine.
