TDCJ locks down 19 units after contraband surge

HUNTSVILLE — The Texas Department of Criminal Justice locked down 19 prison units Wednesday to search for contraband after a recent increase in drug-related violence. The lockdown affects higher-custody inmates at facilities including Allred, Beto, Clements, Coffield, Connally, Ellis, Estelle, Ferguson, Gib Lewis, Hughes, McConnell, Memorial, Michael, Polunsky, Robertson, Smith, Stiles, Telford and Wynne units.
