4-H SHOOTERS WIN GUNS

Madison County 4-H Shotgun Club members gather at the Tu-Mile Sportsmen's Association banquet. Two club members, Jeffery and John, won firearms during the event, which raises funds to support outdoor youth activities in Walker, Madison, Grimes, Trinity, and Houston counties.

Families gathered at the Lake Madison Park pavilion on Saturday, Aug. 9, during Madisonville's Stuff the Van event and Back-to-School Giveaway. The city partnered with Sweet Magnolia Learning Center to distribute school supplies and offer free haircuts to local students, provided by Ivan Nacianceno with Versatile Hair Studio and Stephen Craig. Children enjoyed treats from a shaved ice truck.
NZVFD holds first business meeting under new leadership

NORTH ZULCH — Laughter filled the North Zulch Volunteer Fire Department station Monday night as 29 people and three children attended the first business meeting under interim Fire Chief Chuck Wiedecker’s leadership. The turnout required bringing out extra tables.
Midway VFD Purchases Land for New Station

MIDWAY — The Midway Volunteer Fire Department closed on 5 acres of land, on July 17, within city limits, to build a new fire station, marking a critical step in the department’s expansion plans. Fire Chief Edwin Faw said the current station lacks basic facilities needed for modern firefighting operations.
MCISD School Board Proposes Tax Rate

The Madisonville Consolidated Independent School District board held its regular meeting Monday, Aug. 4, proposing the tax rate for the upcoming year and approving salary increases for teachers and staff.
Wharton wraps up first Lege session

Although State Representative Trey Wharton lives in Walker County, he has family, friends and close ties in all District 12 counties – Grimes, Madison, Robertson, Walker, Washington and the rural part of Brazos County. Wharton’s ability to build relationships has served him well for 30-years as an independent insurance agent and on school and hospital boards. In between the Regular and Special session, Wharton talked about some of his experiences as a freshman legislator and the biggest takeaway - just how important relationships really are.
