MADISONVILLE POLICE RECOGNIZES OFFICER STARK

Officer Levi Stark has received the Madisonville Police Department’s Exceptional Police Service Award, an award program the MPD conducts every six months to honor officers for a job well done. Office Stark was awarded for multiple reasons, including being studious at the police academy and maintaining that exact studious nature in his documentation and police reporting.

Texas Downtown Association visits Madisonville

Downtown Madisonville needs cleaner streets, more retail businesses and a unified identity, according to community members who met with a state assessment team Friday. The Texas Downtown Association sent its assessment team to evaluate the downtown square on July 11.

Drug Dealers Sentenced in Madison County

Three men convicted of dealing methamphetamine in Madison County received prison sentences ranging from 12 to 20 years after separate undercover operations by local law enforcement. Steven Morales received the longest sentence of 20 years from Judge David Moorman on May 19.

Judge weighs new trial

A Madison County judge will decide whether to grant a new trial for a man convicted of soliciting his ex-wife’s murder after hearing arguments Tuesday, July 7, about late evidence disclosure. Frank Blazek testified in the 278th District Court about discovery issues during Philip Cameron Carter’s trial.

Texas Floods Kill Over 100

AUSTIN - The death toll from catastrophic flooding in Texas climbed past 100 on Monday as search teams continued operations in swollen rivers and used heavy equipment to clear tangled trees. At least 104 people died in the flooding that struck over the July Fourth weekend.

KEEPING OUR HEROES HYDRATED

On July 3, SJ’s RV Park in Midway generously donated cases of Gatorade and Propel drinks to the Midway Volunteer Fire Department. The donation was made in support of the department’s continued efforts to serve and protect the community, especially during the summer heat.

NZ FFA ATTENDS STATE CONVENTION

North Zulch FFA members visited the Fort Worth Convention Center, which hosted the Texas FFA State Convention last week. Students participated in the Texas FFA Rodeo, leadership workshops, and sessions with state officers. The group also attended a Wyatt Flores concert and visited the Fort Worth Zoo during their stay.
