DPS encourages safe driving for holiday

AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is encouraging everyone to end 2021 safely as they head out on the road for the holidays. The Texas Highway Patrol will conduct its annual Christmas and New Year’s holiday traffic enforcement campaigns beginning Dec. 23, looking for people who are speeding, not wearing their seat belts, driving while intoxicated or committing other traffic violations.

‘Keep Madison County Beautiful’ awarded the winners of the 2021 Christmas lights contest this week with victors coming from individual towns. The top six houses in Madisonville (no particular order) were awarded to Colby and Kayla Wells, Joey and Shannon Frederick, Armando and Cynthia Juarez, Juan Torres, Mary and Don Gilbert and Emilio Estrada. From North Zulch, top prizes went to Ricky and Brandy Palasota (First Place), Scott and Carrie Kilpatric (Second) and Dennis and Linda Altum (Third). Midway’s top prizes were awarded to Sarah Donaho (First), Betty Ann Neal (Second), Marie Driver (Third) with an Honorable Mention given to Diane Barrington. KAY WELCH
