Christal Turner’s “Gone To Soon” float won first place in the Juneteenth Parade held Friday, June 17 in Madisonville. Kristy Craft’s “Fruity Sensations” float took second, while Peggy Sanchez-Donalson’s “9-10 Girls Little Dribblers” float won third.

The Madison Hotel, a landmark for nearly a century, is now just a memory. Many residents have closely watched the slow demolition of the inn, which finally came down this past Monday.

Madisonville local David Coleman participated in the 65th annual Texas Auctioneers Association Convention in Frisco, Texas, June 16-19. No stranger to competition, he displayed his skills well and walked away Saturday with the title of this year’s Champion Texas Auctioneer, as well as a wall plaque and trophy buckle.

Mrs. Veronica R. Landmann and the late Mr. Donald L. Grooms Jr. are so very happy to announce the engagement of their son Lukas A. Grooms to Miss Lindsey Costilla. Lindsey is the daughter of Ms. Rosalba Hernandez of Conroe and Mr. Sheldon Scott Rudish of College Station. Truly missed during this special time are the groom's father, Don, and his step-father, Richard "Rick" Landmann. An October wedding is planned at the Texas Renaissance Festival.

Last week, Earl Wayne Parten came into the Museum carrying a tattered and yellowed newspaper article about the Madison Hotel and Mrs. Ida Brown. Ads on the back proved it came from an old Meteor. An accompanying photo includes Budgie Burke, Bonne Hendrix, Lynda Breeding, Patricia Stephenson, Mary Ann Caldwell, and Ann Richie, all holding signs that say “This building matters” and standing in front of the Madison Hotel, probably between 1995 and 2005. The caption states that group was with the Madison County Historical Commission at that time.

Juneteenth has been a festive occasion in Texas for well over 150 years, and this year will be no different here. Madisonville Fun A group of local young people got together to plan this year’s Juneteenth activities here in town.

The City of Madisonville has hired James Greene to the position of City Secretary. Originally from Florida, James has been a local resident for five years.

Prosperity Bank’s Junior Board of Directors for the 2021- 2022 school year had a lot of fun and a successful learning experience. The bank celebrated its 29th year of their Junior Board program, consisting of 13 high school seniors from Madisonville and North Zulch High Schools.

Erica Blakley, mother of two and fifth grade English language arts (ELA) teacher has won Madisonville Consolidated Independent School District’s Teacher of the Year for 2022. Erica Blakley is an outstanding educator who has gone the extra mile every day for the last six years as a fifth grade ELA teacher,” explained MCISD’s Superintendent Keith Smith.
