As Texans prepare to celebrate Independence Day and the nation’s 250th anniversary, Texas A&M Forest Service encourages residents to prioritize safety when using fireworks and participating in outdoor activities. Fireworks are a longstanding tradition of Fourth of July celebrations, but they also pose a risk to people, property and natural resources when used improperly.

Members of the Madison County 4-H Intermediate Livestock Judging Team earned top honors at the District 9 4-H Livestock Judging Contest held May 2. The team placed fourth overall and included Ronnie Bowman, Leah Decker, Raime Gonzales and Bella Smith. Raime Gonzales also earned third-place Intermediate High Point Swine honors, while Bella Smith placed eighth overall as a High Point Individual.
