The Madisonville men’s basketball team continued their surging start to the 2021-22 season by winning the storied Madisonville Classic Invitational, their first time earning this crown in over 25 years. The team’s 8-0 start (entering Tuesday’s matchup against Crockett) also earned them a spot in the Texas Association of Basketball Coach’s (TABC) 4A rankings Monday (no. 25).

Christmas Parade

The Annual Madison County Christmas parade, sponsored by the Madison County Chamber of Commerce, took place Saturday evening. The parade began at Lake Madison and went around the Square in traditional fashion. (See Page 3 for more Christmas pictures) ALYSSA CLOPTON

Retired county teachers hold X-Mas luncheon

On December 2, 2021 the Madison County Retired Teacher Personnel of District VI held their annual Christmas meeting at noon at the Madisonville First Baptist Church. Co-Presidents Lorraine Coleman and Barbara Richter were very pleased with the 55 members and guests in attendance. Also in attendance were Mrs. Beth Ricciardi, District VI President and Dr. James Warner, District VI Legislative Representative. Each guest gave a short talk regarding the accomplishments of the retired teachers and how they continue to work with the legislators to improve the quality of life for the retired teachers.

TIP-OFF

Madisonville will play host to the annual Madisonville Classic Invitational from Thursday through Saturday. tournament will be played in the old high school gym and competition gym on Thursday and then all games Friday and Saturday will be in the competition gym. Entry bands will be sold that will be good for each day for all games in either gym. These one day bands will cost $5.00 each and must be attached to the wrist at purchase. A tournament pass band will also be sold for $10.00 that will admit you to all games for all three days. This must also be attached to the wrist at purchase. The Madisonville Classic will not accept district passes or employee badges for this tournament. The only pass accepted will be coaches scouting with the 2021-2022 THSCA or TABC Pass.

SUPER SEASON

Two Madisonville Youth Football League squads took home championships in Groesbeck Saturday with victories in the Super Bowl. Madisonville’s Senior team won their Super Bowl over Franklin by a score of 20-0 Saturday to complete their undefeated season and the Flag team, also undefeated, won theirs 55-39 in their first year in existence. The Bantam team advanced to the Super Bowl but fell short in a 8-0 loss to Groesbeck while the Junior team fell in the second round of the playoffs Nov. 20.

Youth football league shines in 2021

The Madisonville Youth Football League concluded their most successful overall season in recent memory Saturday with three of their teams competing in Super Bowls in Groesbeck and two walking away with rings. Everyone in the organization, however, from the cheerleaders to the players on all teams, will walk away with bountiful memories to cherish.
