CENTERVILLE — Dozens of visitors kicked off 2026 at Fort Boggy State Park with a hike through the woods and frigid dip in Lake Sullivan. The park hosted its fourth annual First Day Hike and second annual Get Froggy lake plunge early Jan.

NORTHZULCH— North Zulch groups next month are coming together to provide promwear for students across the Brazos Valley. The North Zulch Parent Teacher Organization and North Zulch High School FCCLA will host Prom Closet on three Saturdays, offering dresses, suits, shoes and accessories at no cost to any area student.

Volunteers gathered last month to honor those who served and place hundreds of wreaths on veterans’ graves across Madison County as part of a nationwide remembrance effort. A total 912 wreaths were set locally for the Wreaths Across America program in December.

The Madison County Library has joined a statewide effort to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary, challenging residents to improve reading habits, help the community and explore the outdoors in 2026.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office recently received a donation of stuffed animals from Heart and Hands Family Care Center. Deputies will carry the comfort items in their vehicles and give them to children during calls.

A miniature pony named Spirit visited two senior care facilities in Madisonville this month as part of an annual Christmas tradition. Members of the Hilltop Lakes Equestrian Association brought Spirit to the Madisonville Care Center’s assisted living and nursing home wings for the group’s Christmas Spirit visit.

JANUARY 1, 2025 Wharton primed for 89th Legislature District 12 State Representative- Elect Trey Wharton will represent Grimes, Madison, Robertson, Walker, Washington and rural Brazos counties when the 89th Texas Legislature convenes Tuesday, Jan. 14.
