Madison County voters decided four contested Republican races in the March 3 primary election, with the winners set to face Democratic nominees on the general election ballot in November. Thomas Collard defeated incumbent Precinct 2 Commissioner Carl Wiseman with 295 of the total 521 votes cast, about 57%, according to unofficial results.

HUNTSVILLE — Four action items cleared the Region 3 Trinity Regional Flood Planning Group Feb. 26, pushing the multi-county body closer to a completed 2028 Regional Flood Plan.
The Madison County Chamber of Commerce is bringing back its ambassador program, and Executive Director Kelly Mego said she needs the help. The chamber, which runs on a part-time staff, has gone without ambassadors for several years.

The Madisonville Police Department has promoted Brittney Mahler to the rank of captain, filling the vacancy left by the retirement of Capt. Richard Morris. Morris retired after 11 years as Chief Herbert Gilbert’s second- in-command and 20 years in Texas law enforcement. He remains on as a reserve officer.
The Bedias Creek Soil and Water Conservation District board reviewed participation in its annual land judging contest and addressed ongoing conservation projects during its meeting March 2. District Clerk Kenda Mahaffey told board members the 49th annual competition drew 235 students from 27 schools.
