City manager updates council on plans as routine business clears The Madisonville City Council heard plans for the city’s first Cowboy Day and a slate of summer events as it cleared routine business Monday. City Manager Kelcey Young told the council May 11 that the city will hold its first Cowboy Day on July 18 from 2 to 8 p.m.

Police arrest suspect in West Collard Street shooting

Madisonville police arrested a man on a first-degree felony charge after a woman was shot at a home on West Collard Street, according to the Madisonville Police Department. 

Officers were dispatched to the residence just before 1 a.m. Thursday on a report of possible shots fired, according to police. They found a woman with a gunshot wound to her upper leg. 

Police said the suspect, identified as Arturo Jesus Sosa, had fled the scene in a white pickup.

District brings in $81K from outside events

Madisonville Consolidated Independent School District athletic facilities hosted 61 outside events this school year, generating more than $81,000 in rental revenue alone, Athletic Director Rusty Nail told trustees Monday. Nail, invited to speak at the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association conference in June, said the approach has helped cover budget gaps without cutting student programs.
