Floats, tractors, horses and decked-out trucks rolled through downtown Madisonville for the City of Madisonville Fourth of July parade Saturday, July 4, marking America's 250th birthday.

Community members rang the bell 13 times on the Madison County Courthouse grounds Saturday, July 4, for the Let Freedom Ring ceremony. Veronica Landmann is the Madison County library director. She organized the event with Veterans Service Officer Gordon Plumlee. The Children of the Vine, the youth band from North Zulch First Baptist Church, played patriotic music.

The following persons were arrested or booked into the Madison County jail on Sunday, June 28, through Sunday, July 5. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Bedias Creek Soil and Water Conservation District directors agreed Monday, July 6, to write their congressmen over a farm bill that leaves conservation money out. Teresa Reese, a representative of the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board, brought the board a letter from association President Leroy Wolf.

Madison County pays each precinct for roads by a set percentage. The percentage is supposed to match the miles of road each commissioner keeps up.

The American Legion Auxiliary Austin Reed Unit 84 will raffle a handmade quilt Saturday, July 18, to raise money for its programs. First prize is the “America 250” quilt, which measures 80 by 80 inches.

Madisonville will hold its first Cowboy Days and Sip and Shop this month. The event runs from 2 to 8 p.m.
